It’s been five-years since Sami visited France to handle his studies in engineering. He’s courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 times per year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 years of age and doesn’t work. When Sami announced to her which he will be likely to Paris to review, she was proud but in addition anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less through the night, considering how her son would survive life in France. From your cold to women to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother how to use Skype and promised to occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be adequate.
Nada spent a lot of her days awaiting that Skype notification to find out and speak with her son. Every time Sami returned home, he noticed that her face increasingly showed signs of anxiety, which worried him a lot. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France offers him with a better life.
August 2017. Sami just landed in Lebanon and goes where you can see his parents. He examines
his mother’s face and sees different things: she is smiling and appears relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Along with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was introduced to the entire world. This is revolutionary in many ways. Surprisingly, it changed Nada’s life. She’s a fast learner and received a smartphone as a present from her son. Sami very easily share many specifics of his life together with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she could hear his voice at any time during the day. She will also video-call him even though he is in the pub, in a different country. Sami sometimes shares photos of his lunch, the elements, a write-up of clothing he wanted to buy, as well as images of his new girlfriend. Whenever she’s anxious, she sends Sami a note, and most of the time, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technologies have been criticized a whole lot lately being a reason families are becoming distant, but in some instances, specifically for people living abroad, it’s got changed their lives.
