Using a bunch of new materials and production methods invented from the mid-20th century, a barrage of the latest frame styles quickly followed suit and big round frames found they’d slipped off of the stylistic radar. This wasn’t no more the fishing line for round frames though. Not again! Whether it would have been a nod for the intellectual heroes that had worn them decades before, or perhaps the fact they might be found dirt-cheap second hand, the hippy movement from the 60s adopted the fashion because the unofficial frames with their peace loving movement. Now manifesting as sunglasses and opticals, big round glasses had doubly secured their invest pop culture history, being written in to the stylistic history books in, not just one, but two cultural revolutions.
And it’s the fact this classic style can certainly still conjure a picture of refined, studious authority that’s meant big round framed specs have not strayed much in the frame style peripheral. It’s why they’ve been selecting thinkers and visionaries alike. Most significantly, though, it’s why the frame style is coming back a major way almost century after its first foray on the frontlines of fashion.
Big Rounded lenses are one of the few true oldies; A piece of fashion history that will still pull weight today. As frames, they’re a great rounder. They appear top-notch small, and wirey, or massive and chunky. They could down a glance using a stamp of intellectualism, or they could invoke feeling of care-free psychedelia. And while they are certainly not always perfect for rounder faces, they do a good job of suiting most face shape.
