It is often five years since Sami visited France to handle his studies in engineering. He is courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 times per year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 yrs . old and doesn’t work. When Sami announced to her which he could be likely to Paris to examine, she was proud but in addition anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less at night, thinking about how her son would survive life in France. In the cold to ladies to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother using Skype and promised to call occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be sufficient.
Nada spent plenty of her days waiting for that Skype notification to find out and talk to her son. Each time Sami returned home, he realized that her face increasingly showed indications of anxiety, which worried him a lot. He became anxious but was convinced that his diploma from France provides him having a better life.
August 2017. Sami just landed in Lebanon and goes where you can see his parents. He examines
his mother’s face and sees different things: she is smiling and appears relaxed.
What is happening since 2012
Along with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was brought to the planet. This was revolutionary in many ways. Contrary to popular belief, it changed Nada’s life. She’s a fast learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami is now share many information on his life together with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she could hear his voice any time during the day. She could also video-call him even if he is on the street, inside a different country. Sami sometimes shares images of his lunch, the weather, a write-up of clothing he wished to buy, as well as pictures of his new girlfriend. Whenever she’s anxious, she sends Sami an email, and most of that time period, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technology has been criticized a lot lately like a reason why people are becoming distant, but in some cases, specifically for people living abroad, it’s changed their lives.
