Every hairstylist remember fondly the moment they became captivated by hair along with the passion for creativity which it inspires. The storyline wasn’t any different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her adoration for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. There Kristyl was studying cosmetology and pursuing a specialist beauty education. A symptom: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and it was enlisted at the ages of 19. Her first duty station was at Okinawa, Japan, as well as an industry operation in Korea. Every Sunday during Kristyl’s time in Korea, a barber would look at the site and give haircuts for the Marines. But, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my own, personal hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would just do shape ups and line ups personally, nothing too crazy, after i a Marine Sergeant come up to me and have me to get a haircut. I’d never cut anybody’s hair before however i jumped right into it and the man ended up loving it…and regarding his outreach and leadership, literally in the morning, I needed 13 Marines arranged for me personally.”
This is actually the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering like a future career-she concluded on charging $5 a haircut knowning that was it. Using a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair in the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads and every time you service complaintant, there’s impact.
The effect of your Haircut
“As a Marine, the factors for appearance are near an all-time high. The uniform should be squared away and ironed. Everything should be flush, measured properly-there’s plenty of awareness of detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was investigating Marines from head to feet. It tore up me because we’re the optimum people with this nation and that we need to be walking around consequently. That’s in which the impact i believe and heart originated, i wanted to be capable of transmit that through my hands to folks around me…and keep these things walk around feeling proud and good from head to feet, and representing this nation consequently.”
Similarities Operating: Military & Barbering
After coming back from service, Kristyl asked herself what are the next challenge and chapter in their life will be. That’s when she decided to pursue her education being a barber at Bellus Academy. Gaining knowledge from her background and excited, she found many similarities in her service and in the role of a barber.
