Exactly why do a loft conversion?
A loft conversion will add a lot of money – as much as 20% – on the valuation on home. Many families choose to convert their loft area as a technique of needing extra space without having to endure the costly and stressful means of moving home. Work happening inside the loft can also be less disruptive than, say, an important extension with an existing living space.
But be careful not to outgrow your road. Should you invest an excessive amount of and extend too much you’re unlikely to see going back on your own investment.
Is my loft a useable space?
You’ll want to begin with assessing whether your roof space is acceptable for any loft conversion. Nearly all are, but you can find three main circumstances to check:
Internal height. Measure through the the top ceiling joist to underneath the ridgeboard in the apex. It must measure 2,500mm to suitably convert.
Roof pitch. Study the angle of the roof. The better the pitch angle, the higher the central head height will probably be.
Footprint. At least general guideline, internal rules should measure 5,500mm laterally, including chimney, and 7,500mm tailgate to cab.
The way I prefer the loft space?
Once you’ve roughly established your house is well suited for a loft conversion, take into consideration how you wish to apply it; perhaps an extra bedroom with en-suite bathroom, or simply a den or playroom to your growing children. Why don’t you consider an area to wind down or study from the remaining portion of the family?
Or maybe it’s a multi-purpose room having a mixture of uses, including extra liveable space which doubles as guest accommodation. If you are planning to include a bathroom, will it be a baby shower room or could there be space to incorporate a bath? When you find yourself thinking about planning for a bathroom in a loft, make sure to leave a good amount of headroom.
Also believe about storage, as built-in space is frequently included, specially in the eaves.
When looking at the ground plan don’t overestimate space you’ll get. You might have angled ceilings which restrict movement and the kind of furniture you could have. By necessity most domestic loft conversions offer useable space of cosy dimensions, best suited to sleeping, play or workplace.
