Carbide Rotary Burrs bring cutting, shaping, grinding as well as the eliminating sharp edges, burrs and excess material (deburring) and this is what we talk about in this article.
For drilling holes or cutting a dent in metal a carbide drill or a carbide end mill, carbide slot drill or a carbide router is necessary instead of a carbide burr. For carving into stone you’ll ideally work with a Diamond Burr.
1. Carbide Burrs Can be Used on Many Materials
Tungsten Carbide burrs can be used on many materials: metals including steel, aluminum and cast iron, all kinds of wood, acrylics, fibreglass and plastics. When suited for soft metals for example gold, platinum and silver, carbide burrs are great as they will last a very long time without chipping or breaking.

Different cuts of carbide burrs will probably be suitable to certain materials, start to see the next point below to discover more regarding the various cuts.
2. Carbide Burrs Commonly Appear in Two Cuts; Single Cut and Double Cut
Single cut (one flute) carbide burrs possess a right handed (Up cut) spiral flute. These are usually in combination with stainless, hardened steel, copper, cast iron, and ferrous metals and will remove material quickly having a smooth finish. Use for heavy stock removal, milling, deburring and cleaning.

Double cut carbide burrs are generally utilized on ferrous and non ferrous metals, aluminium, soft steel as well as all non-metal materials for example plastics and wood. They’ve got more cutting edges and may remove material faster. Double cut are sometimes referrred to as Diamond Cut or Cross Cut (2 flutes cut across the other) leaves a smoother finish than single cut due to producing smaller chips since they cut away the information. Use for medium-light stock removal, deburring, finishing and cleaning. A double cut carbide burr is easily the most popular cut and will look at you through most applications.

3. The different Shapes of Carbide Burrs and How To Utilize them
Shop what fit around use will depend on the profile or cut you are looking to achieve.
These different shaped burs will get into many a nook and cranny and create some interesting profiles.

4. What Speed or RPM if you work with your Carbide Burrs?
The speed at which you have your carbide bur in your rotary tool will depend on the material you use it on as well as the contour being produced but it’s safe to say you don’t need to exceed speeds of 35,000 RPM.
If your burs are chipping easily this could be because of the speed being not fast enough. However, it’s ideal to start the bur off slow, improving the speed during this process. High speeds will prevent clogging from the flutes of the burs.
5. Don’t Apply Excessive Pressure
As with every drill bits and burrs, let the burr perform the work and apply merely a little pressure otherwise the cutting edges of the flutes will chip away or become smooth prematurely, minimizing the time of your burr.
6. Carbide Burrs are Harder Than HSS Burrs
Our Carbide Burrs are machine ground coming from a specially chosen grade of carbide. Due to extreme hardness in the Tungsten Carbide they may be used on far more demanding jobs than HSS (Very fast Steel).
Carbide Burrs also perform better at higher temperatures than HSS so that you can run them hotter, as well as longer.
HSS burrs will begin to soften at higher temperatures so carbide is always a more sensible choice for lengthy term performance.
7. Keep your Carbide Burr Moving around
When utilizing your carbide burr don’t maintain it still for days on end since this will prevent the burr from digging and jabbing in your material causing unsightly marks and roughness.
