When you think about Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking usually are not the 1st stuff that spring into mind, well at least it was not to me. More likely images of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest and also the mysterious Himalaya pop into your head. To help you imagine my surprise while i got to Nepal and ended up rafting and kayaking more than Much!
When you turn up in Thamel or Pokhara (the primary touristy area’s in Nepal) there are travel specialists in all places, and that i immediately decided rafting was something I had to do inside my in time Nepal. The initial decision to generate is which river to be. Nepal offers most of the worlds best rivers, including a gently flowing river with a with the fiercest whitewater on earth. So based on your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most likely something for anybody! The very best times to look are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout every season the water is going to be at its highest, fastest, and quite a few exhilarating during these months.
Selecting a company to match can show somewhat tricky though! There are several travel agents lining the streets, however, choosing one involving the other is practically impossible…All of them offer virtually the identical prices, nearly exactly the same trips and promise local plumber of your life! However there are many of companies on the market, it’s a shame to say which might be right after your money. You will need to discover a registered company which may have safety process in place. I finished up going with GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the organization owner, a few times around Thamel I trusted that he would deliver what he promised, after doing research I ran across that he’s the best Kayaker in Nepal, having only won the Himalayan Championship for that second time, I felt I had made the proper decision and will be in safe hands.
Right onto your pathway towards the river was amazing in itself. Taken from the valley you are greeted by way of a more traditional lifestyle. Women making an effort within the rice paddies in their saris, looking more glamorous than I can ever achieve! Children carrying their books on his or her heads walking across the highway to high school; Gorgeous mountains without anyone’s knowledge; Random Buffalo dotted everywhere in the scene to mention but a few things we had on our journey for the river. After 2 hours of staring hypnotised out the window we arrive at a smaller village geared up for your rafting needs. There were a smaller shed (similar to normally the one you can imagine Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you want before you begin per day around the river!
When arriving at first point, I realised I’d made the perfect decision in using GRG’s. There are about 20 rafts prearranged and waiting to choose various companies and ours was the only one with any safety kayakers. Best rafting in Nepal will see where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!
This also could it have been, Maila and also the team got everyone suited and booted in your life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) after an extremely informative safety talk we had arrived off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash within your face and down your T-Shirt definitely wakes you up!
